EVENING PUBLIC EVENT WITH BILL HENDERSON HIGHLIGHTS FOOD SECURITY ISSUES
Saturday Sept 29th, join us for an evening of discussion, film, and music focussed on food security. “Farming as if our lives depended on it” will open with a set of perfect songs by Bill Henderson, followed by a juicy panel discussion featuring Harry Burton of the Salt Spring Apple Festival along with entomologist Linda Gilkeson, Michael Ableman and other growers & community activists. Tix to this event are being sold separately from FArm Tour tickets through Artspring, 100 Jackson, 537-2125, Buy through the box office for $20 or $12 if you have a Farm Tour ticket, or collect advance ‘pay what you can’ tickets at the Saturday Market or the Harbour House on the 29th.
This year’s apple harvest promises to be very poor, resulting in the cancellation of the venerable Apple Festival. The evening event to provide context and continuity for the many visitors who look forward to Apple Fest each year, and take the opportunity to look at why crops fail, and what communities can do to build their resilience in a time of a changing climate.
